Summer League is just around the corner. I am very excited to be going to Las Vegas this year to see it live for myself. I really look forward to bringing you all coverage from there, starting next week. Please follow my Twitter page for live updates from Las Vegas. @MooreHoops727
Excitement was hard to come by this past season, but the Lakers have to be excited to start a new off-season after last years debacle. I know I am. A much needed clean slate is what we get with Summer League. Rookies and G-leaguer’s assembled together all competing for maybe 1-3 spots on the deep bench of an NBA team. At least that’s the truth for most of these guys that aren’t first round picks. It’s a time of hungry, competitive basketball.
What it lacks in superstars, it makes up for in effort.
Lakers Summer League Roster
This years roster for the Lakers was just released. It is “subject to change” as all these contracts are not guaranteed, and they do play a couple of games in Salt Lake City and San Francisco before Summer League starts. The Salt Lake City Summer League and The California Classic respectively.
The obvious notables here are Scotty Pippen Jr., Max Christie and Shareef O’Neal. Scottie and Max probably have the best chance right now of making the team. Scotty is already signed to a two-way contract, and Max is the Lakers only draft pick. On the other hand, Shareef looks like he’s probably more of a project at this point. You never know though, he may be ready to take that next step and is just waiting to prove his worth to everyone. That’s just what Summer League is for.
There are other notables to watch too. Nate Pierre-Louis is an amazing defender who could end up being a big help to the Lakers. Mac McClung is coming off a great year on the South Bay Lakers, and might be ready to take that next step. I have also been hearing good things about Cole Swider and Fabian White Jr. So, there is plenty to keep on eye on this summer in Las Vegas.
