  1. The Cleveland Cavaliers are definitely one of the teams to take seriously. They are 18-2 since January third. They did this without Darius Garland and Evan Mobley. They are both just returning from injuries. The pickups of Max Strus and Georges Niang in the off season helped the Cavs solve last years problem, three point shooting.
  2. The Brooklyn Nets are definitely not one of those teams to take seriously. The Nets have a group of similar players, wings. They also don’t have a great deal of size. Jacque Vaughn has not helped the situation by spreading minutes around to his wings. Vaughn needs to settle on who should get the majority of minutes. I’ll never understand why the Nets didn’t trade some of their depth for size or at the very least draft picks. The Nets surplus of wings are the position every team longs for.
  3. The Boston Celtics are definitely one of the teams to take seriously. Jaylen Brown tossing Duncan Robinson after the whistle was not a good look. Don’t get me wrong it was definitely a Flagrant One Penalty. Earlier in the game Bam Adebayo hit Kristaps Porzingis in the midsection on his move to the basket and Porzingis was called for the foul. When you look deeper the Celtics have been beaten by the Miami Heat in two of the last three playoff series they have had. The Celtics and much of the league believe the Heat were always on the borderline between physical and dirty. Brown doing what he did appeared to be telling the Heat Boston wasn’t going to take it anymore.
  4. Monday night the Minnesota Timberwolves blew out the LA Clippers. This definitely make them one of the teams to take seriously. The only thing that creates doubt about them is their limited playoff experience.
  5. The Utah Jazz are not one of the teams to take seriously. After trading Kelly Olynyk, Ochai Agbaji and Simone Fontecchio the Jazz players were disappointed and have struggled as a team. They have lost three straight since those trades. This has caused them to drop outside the playoffs. I understand Danny Ainge trying to build his roster and the Jazz as constituted are not a top team but his trades have demoralized his team in the short term.
  6. The Sacramento Kings aren’t one of those teams to take seriously. Every time they have a good win over a playoff team they come back with a stinker. Since February seventh they have beaten Denver twice but lost to Oklahoma City, Phoenix and believe it or not Detroit at home.
  7. The Atlanta Hawks are definitely not one of the teams to take seriously. The Hawks are up and down weekly. One of their problems is something I’ve mentioned before. Trae Young and Dejounte Murray don’t see to play off each other but appear to take turns with the ball. Young’s lack of defense also hurts the Hawks.
