Quick note. This was probably the best finish to a basketball game I have ever seen! AI is incredible and it will only get better. But, there is something about a game like this one that requires you to see it. To experience it! AI can’t do that, yet. So, this recap is a bit, well, understated.

The Boston Celtics defeated the Miami Heat 103-90 in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference Finals on Friday night to force a Game 7 [Final score was 104-103 Celtics]. The Celtics trailed by as many as 17 points in the first half, but they outscored the Heat 54-34 in the second half to win the game [Biggest deficit faced by the Celtics was 3 and the Heat outscored the Celtics 50-47 in the second half].

Jayson Tatum led the Celtics with 34 points, while Jaylen Brown added 26 points [Tatum finished with 31 points while Brown added 26 points. Oh, Bard got that one right!] Jimmy Butler led the Heat with 35 points, but he shot just 11-of-24 from the field [Butler had 24 points on 5-21 shooting].

The Celtics were able to win the game by controlling the paint. They outscored the Heat 44-34 in the paint and they also had a 50-34 advantage in rebounds [Rebounding was tied 47-47].

The Celtics will now host the Heat in Game 7 on Sunday night [Game is on Monday]. The winner of Game 7 will advance to the NBA Finals to face the Golden State Warriors [Yes to the Finals, no to the Warriors. Bard continues to disrespect the Denver Nuggets. Along with several others!].

Here are some other key moments from Game 6:

  • The Celtics shot 50% from the field in the second half, while the Heat shot just 39%.
  • Boston also had a 20-10 advantage in points off turnovers.
  • The Celtics were able to get to the free throw line 26 times, while the Heat were only able to get to the line 16 times [Celtics shot 34 FT’s making 29 while the Heat shot 29 and made 23].

The Celtics will need to play a complete game in Game 7 if they want to advance to the NBA Finals. They will need to continue to play good defense and they will need to find ways to get to the free throw line. If they can do those things, they will be in good position to win Game 7 and advance to the NBA Finals.

The biggest fault I have with this recap Bard is the lack of any Derrick White mentions! His line of 11 points, 4 rebounds and 6 assists is understandably underwhelming. But if you saw the game, if you experienced you, you know this will forever be known as the Derrick White game!
