Boston Steals One From Washington

Boston steals one from Washington despite Bradley Beal scoring 46 points. The Celtics trailed by 8 with 2:56 remaining and Boston did not back down. Daniel Theis played great in the 4th quarter and finished with 20 points. Jayson Tatum hit 2 clutch layups down the stretch including the game winning one with 4.7 seconds remaining. Kemba Walker seems to be fully back as he had yet another 20+ point game. Davis Bertans was just amazing off the bench for Washington. He had 20 points on 5-9 shooting from 3. Russell Westbrook had a good game as well, finishing with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Jaylen Brown was out for tonight’s game, but Boston still hung on to beat one of the hottest teams in the NBA and are now back at .500.

STAR OF THE GAME

After being wrongfully left off the All-Star team last year, Bradley Beal has just been amazing all year. Tonight was no different. He had a game high 46 points on 16-29 shooting and he also had 7 rebounds. He was named an All-Star starter this week and that is what he deserves. Beal is one of the best scorers in the entire NBA and tonight he showed exactly that. The Wizards did not get the win and Beal missed the game winning shot at the buzzer, but Bradley Beal was by far the best player on the court tonight for both teams.

BIGGEST CONCERN

The Celtics had some problems in tonight’s game. They had 18 turnovers, blew an 11 point lead, missed 7 free throws, but those are not my biggest concern. Boston needs to show consistency. They now have two straight impressive wins, but if they put up a dud against the Clippers on Tuesday, it will all be for not. Kemba Walker seems to be back, Tatum played great tonight, and the bench is finally starting to contribute nightly. Put Jaylen Brown into that equation and there is no reason they should not be a top 4 seed in the East. They have been inconsistent for most of this season, but winning 3 straight against quality opponents should give them a lot of momentum heading into the All-Star break.

SURPRISE CONTRIBUTION

Daniel Theis has been a very solid big man for the Celtics these past few seasons. He doesn’t put up the best stats, but he is a huge part of this Celtics team. Tonight, Theis was one of the main reason why the Celtics won. The offense was struggling and they were trapping Kemba and Jayson and Theis stepped up and hit 3 straight jump shots to help keep Boston in the game. He finished the game with 20 points and 9 rebounds. He was averaging just 9 points per game entering today so his 20 point contribution was definitely helpful.
