Another week in the NBA, another week of drama. Last week, the Cavs had a good week, but this one has been full of drama. From losing 3 out of 4 games to losing 2 starters for months, it hurts to be a Cavs fan. Moreover, the trade rumors have not stopped about Donovan Mitchell, and now that we are past the December 15th date, players like LeVert and Niang could be traded as well. So be a friend, and tell a Cavs friend, it will be ok in the end, I think…
Anyway, let’s recap the good, the bad, and the ugly for week #8.
The Good
Beating the Hawks: Yes, it’s been a rough week, but taking down Atlanta felt good. Jarrett Allen got it going early with 17 points in the 1st Quarter and the Cavs did not look back. Donovan took over the playmaking role with Darius out, providing a career-high 13 assists on the night. Isaac Okoro contributed 18 points and a big steal down the stretch the seal the win. Caris LeVert added 14 points and 5 rebounds off the bench. All in all, a win helps morale, and maybe Spida as point guard might work after all.
The Bad
Humble Pie: Going 1-3 in a week is a sure big helping of humble pie, not to mention the injuries suffered this week. Losing 3 games against the top 2 teams in the East (Boston & Orlando) showed where the Cavs are at this point in the season. The Wine & Gold fell pretty flat on Monday against the Magic only mustering up 94 points and 9-for-40 from 3-point range. The boys rallied to put up valiant efforts against the Celtics on Tuesday and Thursday. But this version of the Cavs just isn’t enough to take down Jayson Tatum and company. If this is the way the season is trending, there are dark days ahead.
The Ugly
Too many injuries: Last week, Evan Mobley missed the Heat game with a knee injury and that continued into week #8 for the Cavs. Then on Thursday, Darius Garland, on what seemed like a normal play, ran into Kristaps Porzingas and injured his face. By now, All Cavs fans know what came next. As if it was a Friday news dump, it was reported that Garland fractured his jaw and will require surgery, AND Evan Mobley will have surgery on his injured knee and will miss 6-8 weeks at least. It seems that Cavs fans are going to get more Tristan Thompson and Craig Porter Jr minutes that they were clamoring for…..
Suffice it to say, it has been a rough week. Hopefully, the Hawks game is an indication of things to come in week #9.
