The Mavs look REALLY good right now. Forget what happened at the beginning of this season, nobody wants to touch this team come playoff time.
The Dallas Mavericks continue their hot streak, winning their 5th game in a row against the top team in the league, Utah Jazz, 111-103. Dallas caught Utah at the right time, as the Jazz shot an uncharacteristic 12/44 (27%) from three, including 0/16 from Donovan Mitchell and Royce O’Neale combined.
A 3-point shooting barrage by the Mavs led to a 19-9 run to end the third quarter, extending the lead to 18 going into the fourth. Dallas kept Utah at arms length the remainder of the game, leaving the Jazz with nothing but air punches to throw.
Star of the Game
Outside his legendary post-game interview (video shown below), Dorian Finney-Smith looked spectacular last night.
DFS scored himself a season-high 23 points (5 threes), along with 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and brilliant defense as per usual.
It’s good to see him happy, and back to playing up to his normal form since testing positive for COVID earlier this season.
Biggest Concern
Of the 8 players who played last night, only 6 scored.
Maxi Kleber and Nicolo Melli, both starters, went O-fer (0/9 combined). Which surprises me considering how well this team shares the ball.
I’m not too concerned, I guess scoring wasn’t their role last night, and that’s ok.
Surprise Contribution
Team Shooting.
Dallas shot 49 threes and made 23 of em last night.
Today’s NBA goes by the motto, “you live and die by the three” and that proved to be true.
You’re going to win an NBA game 99 out of 100 times if your team makes 11 more threes than it’s opponent.
