“Everybody Loves The Sunshine” was famously sang by Roy Ayers. Phoenix is renowned for its weather and as being a top NBA destination. The Phoenix Suns are barely above .500 at the time of writing. There are rumors that Kevin Durant is unhappy with the roster. It probably matters more as the Phoenix Suns by their moves have signaled that they are a ‘win now‘ team.
How we got here?
It is worth looking at how we got here. The Phoenix Suns lost game 7 against the Dallas Mavericks in 2022. It seemed to many that the team had hit its ceiling. Monty Williams had achieved the miraculous. From a losing record to the finals in 2 seasons. He probably deserved more time given he had arguably overachieved. The ownership has now changed. It is a new team.
Point Guard
The current team does not have a recognized point guard. In previous late game situations Chris Paul made the decisions. Almost always the right ones. He was key to the team’s success. What are we to expect with the current Phoenix Suns?
Defense
The defense has not been as strong expected. The team does miss Mikal Bridges. Always available and has never missed an NBA game. He probably never got the full opportunity to show his full potential with the Phoenix Suns. He is now putting up 40-pieces at the Brooklyn Nets.
Enforcer
Jae Crowder was the Phoenix Suns’ enforcer. He brought toughness and muscle. He is now at the Milwaukee Bucks.
Roster
The roster seems to need work. It will be interesting to see if there are any trades. The owner believes in winning now. Figuring it out later, secondly. But if there is no winning there is a lot more to figure out!
The Good Old Days
In the good old days things were looking bright. At the start of the season Kevin Durant seem to be happy and even said the Phoenix Suns had everything to succeed . Looking on the brigher side of the sun, there is still a lot of basketball left to play.
