On a Friday night, Kemba Walker leads Boston past Indiana. After losing 3 straight games, Kemba Walker played his best game of the season to ensure the losing streak would end. The Pacers started off the game leading 18-4, but were outscored 114-94 for the rest of the game. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown were not that great today. They were a combined 9-30 from the field. On the bright side though, everyone else contributed. The bench scored 39 points tonight and was very key in the victory tonight. Domantas Sabonis proved tonight why he was named the All-Star replacement for Kevin Durant. He put up a solid 24 points, 6 rebounds, and 9 assists. Malcolm Brogdon and Myles Turner struggled as well, shooting a combined 9-30 from the field.
STAR OF THE GAME
Kemba Walker has been receiving criticism all season and sometimes deservedly so. However, there are some people out there who believe that the Celtics need to trade Kemba. I do not agree with that one bit. If the Celtics want to get banner 18, Kemba is a huge piece. Example? Tonight. The Jays struggled bad tonight and Kemba Walker mad up for it by putting in a season high 30 points on 10-19 shooting. He also had 3 rebounds, 6 assists, and a huge charge drawn in the 4th quarter. He is the 3rd star on this team and when he needs to be, he can step up when the Jays are out and/or struggling. Hopefully he can continue this momentum into the next game.
BIGGEST CONCERN
Jayson Tatum admitted recently that he sometimes struggles to catch his breath after missing a couple of weeks due to Covid. In his past 2 games, he has not been the same player. He is a combined 8-38 from the field and only 22 points. Now, I still strongly believe that Jayson Tatum is the face of the Celtics and will be a great player in this league for many years, but there is no denying that he is in a bit of a slump right now. He was named an All-Star starter today to replace Kevin Durant, however. Hopefully Tatum can snap out of this funk soon, but tonight he did not really help the Celtics at all.
SURPRISE CONTRIBUTION
Jeff Teague has not been as productive as many thought he would be this year. He has been a DNP-CD some games and some games he plays and is just bad. Tonight, he played extremely well off the bench. He finished with 14 points on 3-5 shooting as well as 2 rebounds and 2 assists. He did have some blunders, but considering how non productive he has been this year, tonight was a step in the right direction for him.
