Orange County has officially voted to recognize Aug 24th as Kobe Bryant day. Bryant, the former Los Angeles Lakers great, passed away in a tragic helicopter accident on Jan 26th, that also claimed the lives of 8 others including his daughter, Gigi.
Bryant, who lived in Newport Beach, was a treasured member of the Orange County Community. Kobe, who was also known as the “The Black Mamba”, was one of the greatest NBA players of all-time. He played his entire 20 year career with the Lakers.
Kobe dedicated his life to inspiring children after he retired from the NBA, and in 2018 won an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film for his 2017 film Dear Basketball .
Bryant died on his way to the Mamba Sports Academy where he was co-owner of the gym that trained young athletes.
Kobe inspired many men and women to pursue their dreams and never give up. Through this day of recognition, the residents of Newport Beach, as well as all of Orange County will keep his memory alive forever.
