It’s been a rough ride for the Los Angeles Lakers over the last six seasons, but so far into the 2019-20 season they have met, or even exceeded expectations! |
The first two weeks of the 2019-20 NBA season are now completed, and the anticipated excitement of this season’s story-lines have been nothing short of exciting. For the Lakers, the new super duo of King James and A.D has lived up to the hype. Aside from the opening night loss to the Clippers, the Lakers have been outstanding as their chemistry has come together far quicker than I expected.
For starters, their defense has been solid. The addition of Dwight Howard is turning out to be a gem. LeBron at the point seems like a masterful move up to this point because he is not only the most gifted passer in the league, but he is also a strong floor general. Davis is dominant, evidenced by his 40 pt, 20 rbs in 3 quarters against Memphis.
LeBron is also proving that father time can be defied by continuing to produce otherworldly numbers. He dropped a triple-double in a duel against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks, which included a game-tying assist to force overtime and then delivered eight crucial points in OT to pull away for the victory.
Behind the leadership and talent of its two stars, the Lakers are rolling. Danny Green is the sniper advertised. Avery Bradley is the defender he is known as and key contributions from Alex Caruso have fortified the bench. Most of this has taken place even without the services of Kyle Kuzma, who just recently returned from a minor injury.
The Lakers have the firepower to dominate the West. They have shooters, they have scorers, they have play-makers and they even have defenders. What is amazing is that have not even begun to scratch the surface of their potential, and if they can stay healthy, they will continue to live up to the expectations.
So far so good.
