Mavericks lack energy in home loss to Kings

The Dallas Mavericks continue to struggle at home, losing their 4th straight game at the American Airlines Center against the Sacramento Kings, 121-107.

Dallas struggled early, missing 11 of their first 12 shots. This set the tone for the team in a bad way, as the Mavs appeared to lack motivation and effort on defense for the rest of the night. Sacramento knocked down plenty of open shots, shooting nearly 50% from the field, and 45% from three.

Mavs fans… I have a stat for you that might just drive you crazy.

When leading after the 1st quarter of any game this season, the Mavs are 20-3.

When trailing after the 1st quarter, Dallas is 10-23.

It’s almost as if they have it or they don’t after playing 1Q. With the easiest remaining schedule out of any team in the NBA, the Mavericks need to buckle down and get it together if they want to catch a struggling Portland Trail Blazers team for the 6th seed.

Star of the Game

Sacramento fans have to be buzzing about having De’Aaron Fox as their point guard. He was spectacular last night, scoring 30 points on 12/21 shooting, along with 12 assists, 2 steals, and ZERO turnovers.

As fast as Fox is, the game is really slowing down for him. He’ll break out of his superstar cocoon whenever his team starts to win games.

Biggest Concern

Luka complains way too much, and it negatively affects this team.

Doncic is tied with Dwight Howard for most technical fouls in the NBA, with 13. He added another last night, after a no-call on a shot where he initiated contact. It was a great no-call by the ref, but of course, 22-year-old Luka knows better, right?!

Every single time anything happens on the court, he is complaining to the ref about something ridiculous. He has got to rid himself of that spoiled brat attitude, and play ball. This is the NBA, you’re going to get hit, and sometimes you won’t get a call, DEAL WITH IT. He will become more professional as he gains experience, but the rest of the league is annoyed by Luka’s complaining. If the Mavs continue to lose games, it will cause chaos in DFW as well.

Surprise Contribution

Terence Davis took advantage of Dallas’ poor perimeter defense, shooting 5/5 from three, and lighting up the Mavs for 23 points off the bench.

I love his energy when he’s out there too, any team would be lucky to have Davis as their 6th man.

Next Game

The Mavericks will get two much needed rest days, and then play another home game against the Detroit Pistons.
