Happy Easter Weekend!
The Dallas Mavericks win their third game in a row on the road against a slumping New York Knicks team, 99-86. There were only 2,000 fans in attendance at Madison Square Garden, which is good for former Knick, Kristaps Porzingis, as he usually receives unnecessary boo’s whenever Dallas plays in New York.
Led by Dallas’ native, Julius Randle, New York hung around Dallas the first three quarters of this game. Poor shooting in the fourth quarter, ultimately lead to an awful 17-point quarter, and their demise.
Dallas saw contributions from every Maverick, as their bench stars led this team to a win. Tim Hardaway Jr and Jalen Brunson combined for 29 points off the bench (11/18 shooting) and a joint +46. Both played quality minutes in the fourth to close the game out.
Star of the Game
Dallas Mavericks’ assistant coach, Jamahl Mosley.
Rick Carlisle had to sit out coaching last night due to a positive COVID-19 test, so Mosley sat in.
Coach Mosley earned his first NBA win, filling in for Rick as the team’s acting head coach.
Biggest Concern
Is something wrong with Dwight Powell?
He is not injured, but it seems Nicolo Melli is starting to creep into Dwight’s role. They played the same amount of minutes last night (12), and Melli has been with the team less than a week.
Maybe it is because Willie Cauley-Stein is out right now with COVID, but this will raise questions on what the Mavs plans are this offseason.
Surprise Contribution
Tim Hardaway Jr was all over the place last night. Off the bench, he padded 14 points (3/6 from three), 3 rebounds, and 2 steals.
