Los Angeles Lakers
The Los Angeles Lakers are back!! Or are they? Well, I mean, maybe. They have won 3 of their last 5 including impressive wins against the Utah Jazz and Brooklyn Nets. They have also welcomed back Anthony Davis after a prolonged absence. Of course, they still retain the services of LeBron James who has been nothing short of spectacular this season. So, on one hand, they certainly look to have straightened things out. However, like any Lakers fan will tell you, the team has teased this before. The team’s longest win streak this season is 4. That was preceded by a 3 game losing streak. That’s been the Lakers season in a nutshell. Two steps forward, one and a half steps back.
The Lakers will be without LeBron James tonight. Poor AD is going to be asked to carry the scoring load while no doubt getting some time guarding Joel Embiid. Welcome back… I guess.
Philadelphia 76ers
The Sizers were not expected (well, at least not expected by me) to be this good without Ben Simmons. The key for them has been the MVP caliber play of Joel Embiid. He is the evolution of the big man in today’s game. He can rebound (10.8 average), defend (1.4 blocks) and score (29 ppg). When you take a deeper dive into his scoring you see that he is shooting 38% from three, over 80% from the free throw line and in his last 4 games has finished with 42, 38, 40 and 50 points. Embiid is very good!
The Sixers seem to be trying hard to move on from Simmons and likely hope to get that done before the trade deadline which is Thursday, February 10th. Regardless, this team is a legitimate Eastern Conference contender even without their All-Star point guard.
Dimers Deliberation
Dimers.com feels this will be a close game with the Sixers coming out on top. I can’t argue with that. The Sixers are playing at home, have an MVP caliber player on a roll and have won 5 of their last 7. The Lakers are without their MVP caliber player, on the road and have won 3 of their last 7.
