Saving the Best for Last: Cali Wins a Nail-biter in the Week 6 Nightcap

Two-and-a-half minutes into the last game of the weekend, the 7:00pm ET matchup between California and West Coast Breeze, the hometown California Sea-Kings were up 12-2. They would maintain a similar lead throughout most of the first half. The Sea-Kings were able to push it to a 14-point advantage several times in fact. But aggressive work on the offensive boards and some hot shooting from the perimeter enabled West Coast to cut the lead to just three at the half, trailing 72-69.

The two teams went nearly basket-for-basket throughout the third quarter. California couldn’t extend the lead beyond four. West Coast closed to within a point on two separate occasions, ultimately heading into the final period with the Sea-Kings up 99-97. Much like the third, the fourth quarter was a thrilling game of tit for tat. The two teams would exchange blows right up to the closing moments. California was holding onto a 120-119 with under a minute to go when West Coast’s Anthony Lefeau-Aguirre caught a feed into the low-post. He faced-up and attempted a closely-defended fade-away from 8’. California’s Michael Fry sent the shot back to record his only block of the game. Lefeau-Aguirre tracked the ball down before it went out of bounds in the right corner. He then found Tymoryae Glover open on the wing for a three. But Glover’s shot would come up short! Cali secured the loose ball rebound and, a few seconds later, their second win of the season, 120-119.
