We have yet to see the full strength Suns this season.
Devin Booker played great in the season opening win against the Golden State Warriors but has since been sidelined with an ankle injury. Bradley Beal remains out with a back problem. The Phoenix Suns’ superstar depth is such that even without them, they still have Kevin Durant!
Durant “KD” the veteran has won everything there is to win in the game. That includes 2 Championships, Season MVP, Finals MVP, Scoring titles, and Rookie of the Year. He is a 13 Time All-Star was facing off for the first time against the San Antonio Spurs led by Victor Wembanyama, “Wemby”.
Wemby the prospect that is expected to win everything eventually playing his rookie season in the NBA. Victor has called Durant his favourite player and no doubt dreamed that this day might one day come.
Neither man disappointed on the night with KD and Wemby trading blows often matching up against one another. Durant had a stellar offensive night showing his full arsenal of skills. His other nickname is the “Easy Money Sniper”. We saw why.
Victor Wembanyama took a little time to get going offensively but was a defensive menace all night long but wasn’t to be outshone. The Phoenix Suns were up for most of the game but this young and less experienced San Antonio Spurs team were able to close the gap towards the dying moments of this enthralling game.
That Ending
It was fitting that it was decided by plays involving both men. Wemby was able to put back a dunk from a missed 3 to take the San Antonio Spurs within 1 point of the Phoenix Suns with the score at 114-113 and 6.8 seconds left of the game. KD took the inbound but was immediately swarmed by 3 San Antonio Spurs and trapped in the corner. Unable to advance the ball or call a timeout he was stripped leading to a San Antonio Spurs layup and the lead for them with only 1.2 seconds left on the game clock.
The Phoenix Suns took the final play of the game from an inbound in the San Antonio Spurs’ half. KD received the inbound and was able to get his shot off, hitting the rim but didn’t quite make it. The San Antonio Spurs got the win 115-114.
They play again today for the rematch!
