Star of the Game
The game stayed pretty close through the first three quarters, but the Timberwolves blew past the Trail Blazers in the final quarter to record their fourth straight victory. Karl-Anthony Towns lead the way for the Wolves, scoring 36 points with 15 rebounds, five assists and three blocks. While he did shoot 0/4 from three, that’s forgivable considering how dominantly he played.
Biggest Concern
Minnesota is gelling nicely as the season winds down, and any major flaws are being covered by supporting players. D’Angelo Russell didn’t score that many points, but he had 15 assists. Beasley shot 50% from the field, but his other stats are low. Jaden McDaniels is playing with a lot more confidence, though fouling can still be an issue for him. The only lagging concern is making sure Edwards is healthy, but with plenty of rest he should be able to jump right back in.
Number of the Night
4. Jaylen Nowell has had inconsistent playing time lately, and Coach Finch cited his defensive shortcomings as to why. But while Edwards is recovering, Nowell was given the opportunity to prove his worth. Against Portland, he scored 22 points, shooting 8/13 from the field (4/7 from three) with two assists. As one of the most consistent offensive players off the bench, It may not take Finch too long to start overlooking any defensive liabilities.
