Star of the Game
Minnesota had a big opportunity here with Giannis Antetokounmpo out with a sore knee. They capitalized in a major way with Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns both scoring 25 points. Towns managed to pull in 11 boards, giving him a slightly edge over Edwards. Together these two can dominate the floor, as Edwards also contributed four assists and three steals.
Biggest Concern
At the end of the first quarter, there was a contested rebound that locked Taurean Prince and Serge Ibaka up. This could have passed without incident, but Patrick Beverley stepped and give Ibaka a shove in the back. Because of this, a major conflict erupted between both teams. Beverley and George Hill (who pushed Beverley back) were both ejected, and may face possible suspensions. With the loss of McDaniels and a struggling Vanderbilt still dealing with injuries, Beverley’s suspension may have disastrous consequences for Minnesota’s defense.
Number of the Night
11. Prior to this game, Naz Reid was listed as questionable to play due to some back spasms. Not only did he play, but he scored 14 points off the bench, shooting 6/9 from the field. Though he struggled on the glass, Reid contributed heavily to the Timberwolves’ bench, all of whom have been playing well lately. This is especially critical as Minnesota are missing multiple big men to injuries.
Next Game
The Timberwolves will play a critical game against Dallas on Monday at 7:30 CST.
