Star of the Game
Minnesota keeps the momentum going, winning nine out of their last ten games. Leading the way was the duo of Anthony Edwards and Karl-Anthony Towns. Though Edwards shot 8/21, he hit six 3-pointers and had 27 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals. Towns remains dominant with 30 points (shooting 8/15) and 8 rebounds. These two may be hitting their stride together just before the playoffs are set to begin.
https://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/russeda01.htmlAside from the fact that Jaden McDaniels has a high ankle sprain and may miss 6-8 weeks, a more pressing concern tonight was D’Angelo Russell The point guard only had six points tonight, shooting a cold 2/11 from the field. Luckily, Russell recognized this and was able to distribute a bit more by leading the team with six assists. Hopefully Minnesota’s big three can find a groove where they are all hitting shots, then the playoffs will really be exciting.
Number of the Night
22. Patrick Beverley has proven to be the heart and soul of this year’s Timberwolves squad. His acquisition in the off-season (a steal, by the way) has led to a complete culture change in Minnesota. Tonight he was a monster on both ends with 18 points (shooting 6/9), six rebounds, a steal, and six blocks. Going forward, the hope is that Beverley can become like Udonis Haslem for Miami. He may be getting older, and his playing time may decline in the next few years, but if he is the guy setting the tone on the bench and in the locker room, this attitude will be here to stay.
Minnesota will face Milwaukee on Saturday at 4:00 CST.
