Tyler Herro will be out between 10-12 weeks with a foot injury. This recent injury “adds to a pattern” of lower body injuries which can possibly effect his earning potential. Last season he also had a lower body injury and he was out eighteen games. Herro’s impact as an NBA player is in his quickness. He is up for an extension soon that could be for three years and $150 million dollars.
Herro’s lower body injuries
ESPN ranks Herro at #68 in their Top 100 NBA players list. Herro’s injury last year that kept him out 18 games was listed as well as his current injury status. Since 2022, he has missed games with “achilles soreness,” ankle and foot injuries. Coach Spoelstra and Coach Quinn have worked with him to improve his shot profile to mirror Steph Curry’s.

That demands him playing more off-the-ball, running through screens, timely drives to the basket, etc. It will tax his lower body more and more. Steph Curry has suffered severe ankle injuries during his career. Reggie Miller and Ray Allen also mirror a similar shot profile and had a mixed history of lower body injuries.
Herro had an extra bone removed from his foot which will cause him to miss between eight to twelve weeks this season. Perhaps the extra bone will solve Herro’s injury problems. He was telling Coach Spoelstra that he wanted to return in six weeks. It is not about enthusiasm but the prospect of missing future salary opportunities.
Herro’s burden for the Heat
Tyler Herro is possibly in “the right place at the right time.” He was an All-Star last season and is now the number #1 offensive option on the Heat. He still has two years left on his contract at $31 million per year. As per the Miami Herald, if no agreement is reached this season, Herro is eligible for a 4 year extension for up to $206 million in the 2026 offseason.

Pat Riley and his basketball stars have a checkered history. Most of the time Riley has been stingy giving extensions because of the player’s ages. The most notable being the fallout between the Heat and Wade in 2016 when he was not given an extension. Wade is the exception as he had already won championships for the Heat.
