Our panel recaps Episode 8 of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. Jose Salviati and Evan Moore both who lived through the rise of the Lakers dynasty in the 1980’s. Akeem Evans and Derek Lavell did not, but they are both excited to learn more about this team. Based on Jeff Pearlman’s book, Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers, and executive produced by Adam McKay the show takes a look at a team that defined its era, both on and off the court. The series tells the Lakers story from the perspective of Dr. Jerry Buss. Jerry West, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Norm Nixon and more Lakers legends.
Winning Time Episode 10 – Promised Land
In Episode 10 we watched the 1980 NBA Finals! Kareem was dominating, but then got hurt. The Lakers were up 3-2 with game 6 in Philadelphia when Magic decided to take over. Dr. Buss and Jeanie were dealing with the loss of Dr Buss’s mom and Spencer Haywood continues to spiral. In the end, the Lakers are handed what is now the Larry O’Brien trophy by Larry O’Brien!
