Our panel recaps Episode 5 of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. Jose Salviati and Evan Moore both who lived through the rise of the Lakers dynasty in the 1980’s. Akeem Evans and Derek Lavell did not, but they are both excited to learn more about this team. Based on Jeff Pearlman’s book, Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers, and executive produced by Adam McKay the show takes a look at a team that defined its era, both on and off the court. The series tells the Lakers story from the perspective of Dr. Jerry Buss. Jerry West, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Norm Nixon and more Lakers legends.
Winning Time Episode 5 – Pieces of a Man
In Episode 5 the focus was on Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. We learned about his upbringing, his passion and a little bit about why he was so stand-offish. Chick Hearn and Pat Riley made in-roads in their partnership and the Dr. Jerry Buss, the perfectionist, gets a first look at SHOWTIME, on the court and in the Forum Club as the Lakers get off to a great start. Then, the episode finishes in tragedy. We are also introduced to Brad Holland and Jim Chones.
