Our panel recaps Episode 8 of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. Jose Salviati and Evan Moore both who lived through the rise of the Lakers dynasty in the 1980’s. Akeem Evans and Derek Lavell did not, but they are both excited to learn more about this team. Based on Jeff Pearlman’s book, Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers, and executive produced by Adam McKay the show takes a look at a team that defined its era, both on and off the court. The series tells the Lakers story from the perspective of Dr. Jerry Buss. Jerry West, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Norm Nixon and more Lakers legends.
Winning Time Episode 8 – California Dreaming
In Episode 8 we find the Lakers on a roll, guided by Interim Coach Paul Westhead and new Assistant Pat Riley. The All-Star game gives Magic an opportunity to meet Dr. J while Dr. Buss deals with tragedy back home. Coach McKinney is on the mend and traveling with the team which sets up a power struggle between the coach that started the season and the coaches guiding the team on a Championship run.
