Our panel recaps Episode 8 of Winning Time: The Rise of the Lakers Dynasty. Jose Salviati and Evan Moore both who lived through the rise of the Lakers dynasty in the 1980’s. Akeem Evans and Derek Lavell did not, but they are both excited to learn more about this team. Based on Jeff Pearlman’s book, Showtime: Magic, Kareem, Riley, and the Los Angeles Lakers, and executive produced by Adam McKay the show takes a look at a team that defined its era, both on and off the court. The series tells the Lakers story from the perspective of Dr. Jerry Buss. Jerry West, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Norm Nixon and more Lakers legends.
Winning Time Episode 9 – Acceptable Loss
In Episode 9 we see the start of the end for three key characters. The Lakers, mostly Jerry West, face a gut wrenching decision about the future for Coach McKinney. Dr. Buss deals with the pain of realizing that his mom will not survive her illness and Spencer Haywood spirals out of control. Through all that, the Lakers continue to play well, earn the top seed in the Western Conference and represent the West in the Finals!
