Wizards give up a 35 point lead in a loss

I love games like this. Where it is such a lopsided game, that I can start working on the game recap at halftime. At least that’s what I was thinking at halftime. But as a Wizards fan, I should know better. The Washington Wizards give up a 35 point lead to the Los Angeles Clippers in a loss.

The Wizards were leading by 30 points at halftime. 99.9% of the time when a team is up by 30 points, you assume that the game is over. Sure the team that is down might make a run to cut the lead to 15-20 points. But the team who had the huge lead will usually respond. Well unfortunately, that didn’t happen. The Clippers kept battling, while everything that could go wrong for the Wizards went wrong. Turnovers, fouling three point shooters, bad defense. You name it.

Even with the Clippers mounting a furious comeback, the Wizards still had a 6 point lead with 11 seconds remaining in the game. That’s when disaster took place. With 9 seconds remaining in the game, Luke Kennard knocked down a deep three to cut the Washington lead to 3. Kyle Kuzma would go on to commit a 5 second inbound violation, giving Los Angeles a chance to tie the game. Bradley Beal fouled Luke Kennard on a three point attempt. Kennard knocks down the three to tie the game, and sank the free throw for the four point play. Giving Los Angeles a 116-115 lead with 1 second remaining in the game. With no times outs remaining, the Wizards were forced to throw a pass the length of the court. The pass wasn’t even close to connecting.

With a 116-115 loss to the Los Angeles Clippers, the Washington Wizards have dropped 4 straight games at home.

Star of the Game

Luke Kennard is the star of the game, for stepping up when the Clippers needed someone to hit clutch shots. Kennard scored 25 points on 8 for 13 shooting.

Biggest Concern

The Washington Wizards had a 35 point lead and lost the game. Nothing more needs to be said.

Number of the Night

40. That’s how many points the Wizards gave up in both the 3rd and 4th quarters to the Clippers.

Next Game

The Wizards will travel to Memphis to take on the Grizzlies on Saturday, January 29th at 8:00pm Eastern.
