The Washington Wizards sunk the Heat on Sunday night 110-108. The game was a “pitfall game.” Although it was demoralizing and has the Heat on a three game losing streak, it doesn’t end their season. The Heat can take this early pitfall in the second half of the season to “stay sharp.” According to this article here on SI.com’s Heat fan site, the fans think the season is over. Let’s look at some recap points during the game which the Heat need to correct.

Recap point #3 — Another star opponent sunk the Heat

The Mavericks, the Thunder and Wizards used their star players to take advantage of the Heat. Kyle Kuzma scored 11 points in the third quarter and the Wizards pulled ahead of Miami. Tyus Jones had 16 assists in the game and six assists in the third quarter. Deni Avidja and Corey Kispert had rebounds during the quarter that led to points. According to this article here from the Washington Post, Kuzma was very focused on performing well and went 12 of 16 from the line. “Defending without fouling” is a Heat maxim and it wasn’t followed.

Recap point #2 — Bam Adebayo has another poor game.

Bam reported before the All-Star break that he was getting double teamed a lot more. Then during the team’s 5-1 road trip, Bam had some great games. He looked like he got past the extra attention. Now, he has taken another dip in points. Look at this recap article here from Heat beat writer Ira Winderman. Bam posted his first double-double in seven games against the Wizards but went 2 for 6 from the free throw line.

All U Can Heat does a great analysis on possibly “freeing” Bam by moving him to the four in their article here. But this is not a good move and Adebayo should stay at the center spot. He needs to learn the way defenses are game planning for him and “get to his spots” quicker.

Recap point #1 — Heat sunk by bad defense.

Look at this write up here on the “Bullets Forever” fan site. The Wizards beat the Heat in their “four factors” that determine wins and losses in basketball-shooting, rebounding, ball handling and fouling. The Wizards shot 58% from the field and made more free throws. The Heat may have (probably did) overlook the Wizards and thought the game was over before it started. The defense for Miami has become soft, but no doubt they will have a hard practice and be ready for Denver on Wednesday.
