In his first game since January 29, Kristaps Porzingis delivered in his debut for the Washington Wizards. Porzingis scored 25 points on just 12 shots in only 21 minutes of playing time. Porzingis’ efficient play proved to be the spark for Washington. Seven players scored in doubles digits for the Wizards, with Porzingis and Kuzma (23 points) leading the way. As efficient as Washington’s offense was, their defense struggled at times. Although Washington won by the score 133-123, they trailed by double digits at one point during the game.
They had a number of defensive lapses that led to wide open threes and layups. Indiana shot 51.8 percent from the field, and outscored Washington in the paint 60-46. Most of the time, that is enough to win the game. But luckily for Washington they were able to find the touch from beyond the arc, shooting 17 for 42.
With 1:35 remaining in the game, Washington had a 124-121 lead on Indiana. But timely baskets from Kristaps Porzingis and Ish Smith sealed the game for Washington. With a 133-123 win over the Indiana Pacers, Washington will improve to 29-34 on the season.
Star of the Game
Kristaps Porzingis is the star of the game. In just 21 minutes, he played efficient basketball and provided a boost on the defensive end with two highlight worthy blocks.
Biggest Concern
I don’t really have any big concerns. Sure the defense could have been better. But even the best defensive teams have nights where they can’t seem to get stops. So therefore, I can’t always list Washington’s defense as a concern whenever they have a bad defensive night.
Number of the Night
5. That is how many turnovers Washington had against Indiana. If you can take care of the basketball, that is going to help your offense tremendously.
Next Game
The Wizards will travel to Los Angeles to play the Clippers on Wednesday March 9th at 10:30pm Eastern.
