Sports In The Grand Canyon State
The Arizona Diamondbacks won the World Series in 2001. The Grand Canyon State has been pursuing a championship in one of the four major sports ever since.
Sportswomen Rock!
Arizona sportswomen rock! They currently have the bragging rights. The Phoenix Mercury have won 3 WNBA titles in 2007, 2009 and 2014 with the great Diana Taurasi.
The Arizona Cardinals
Back to the men. Let begin with the Arizona Cardinals. They made Superbowl XLIII in 2008. The Pittsburgh Steelers came out on top. The 2021 team had a ton of talent. Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins were exciting to watch. The team finished this past 2023-24 season with a 4-13 record. They seem to be a long way from contention.
The Arizona Coyotes
The Arizona Coyotes have never come close to winning the Stanley Cup.
The Phoenix Suns
In 2021 the Phoenix Suns were up 2-0 in the NBA Finals. Teams up 2-0 go on to win 86% of the time in a 7 game series. Yet the Phoenix Suns went down 2-4 to the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Arizona Diamondbacks
More recently, the Arizona Diamondbacks were up 1-0 in the 2023 World Series. They weren’t expected to beat the Texas Rangers and lost 4-1. They played an exciting brand of Baseball in the post season. We expect them to be contenders for years to come.
The 2024 Season
The current Phoenix Suns began as early favorites for the 2023-24 season. Those odds have fallen and they are now 5th favourite to win it all. This reflects the way the first part of the season has gone. There was a 7 game winning streak. But winning streaks have been hard to come by with a season characterized by wild swings from wins to losses.
The Phoenix Suns will be first to have the opportunity to end the 20+ year drought. Can the Phoenix Suns bring the ultimate shine to Arizona? Kevin Durant, Devin Booker and Bradley Beal were put together to do this very thing. The NBA Finals are in June 2024.
