Houston Rockets Rematch
The San Antonio Spurs hosted their local rival Houston Rockets for their third game of the new 2024/25 season. They got off to a slow start and spent most of the game trying to close the gap. The San Antonio Spurs have a lot of young talent. It was Malaki Branham who provided a spark to the team knocking down three 3-balls to keep it close. However with the Houston Rockets up 101-99 Fred VanFleet hit a dagger 3 with 17 seconds remaining in the game to seal it and even up the season series 1-1.
Oklahoma City Thunder
The San Antonio Spurs next had a 2 game road trip. First stop was the Oklahoma City Thunder. This was a tough game for the San Antonio Spurs. The Oklahoma City Thunder were locked in defensively and turned over the San Antonio Spurs often leading to many fast break buckets. Led by Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, who many believe should have won the MVP award last season, this team looks like it will go far this season – even all the way. The youngest team in this league they will be contenders for a long time. The Oklahoma City Thunder have a perfect 5-0 start.
Utah Jazz
A trip to the Utah Jazz was next for the San Antonio Spurs who by contrast held a 0-4 record at the start of the game. The San Antonio Spurs were able to bounced back from their 2 game losing streak with Victor Wembanyama recording his first 5X5 game this season. The line was 25 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 5 steals and 5 blocks.
A Few Thoughts More
The San Antonio Spurs are 2-3 to start the season in the tougher Western Conference. There are a lot of positives to take away that should bode well for the rest of the season.
