Victor’s 2nd Coming
Even with the lofty expectations coming into the league one would have to say that Victor Wembanyama met them in his first season. He was the Rookie of the year and most observers believe he should have been awarded the DPOY trophy too. The question has been what the old master Gregg Popovich would cook up for Victor’s 2nd season.
Point God
The answer was Chris Paul who is often dubbed “Point God”. Victor’s immense gifts appears in the best situation for it to be nurtured. The roster now includes Harrison Barnes too. The San Antonio Spurs are interested in having a strong veteran presence to balance out the promising young talent that they have on their roster.
State Rivalry
First up was a game on the road to perennial rivals the Dallas Mavericks who are fresh off a trip to the NBA Finals. The game was a close one. Wemby seemed to be looking for his shot but it wasn’t falling as he had hoped for on this night. The Dallas Mavericks were able to pull away in the 4th quarter to take the win. Next up were the Houston Rockets at home. The San Antonio Spurs looked really good and were up at the half. The Houston Rockets did push hard after the break and tied up the game down the stretch in the 4th quarter. There were a few nervous moments for San Antonio Spurs fans but their team got the win.
Early Thoughts
The team looks a world away from last season with the offense now run by Chris Paul. He finding people at the right time and uses his ability to pace the game to maximum effect.
