Western Conference Power Rankings – Week 3

I don’t care where your NBA loyalty lies, if you are a fan of the game you have to get excited when a long time bad team begins to see success. The Phoenix Suns are that team, so far. The Suns have risen to the #1 spot in Week 3 of the NBA season and don’t appear to be a fluke. The team that went undefeated in the NBA Bubble last season has improved, adding Chris Paul, and continued to excel. As is to be expected, this early in the season, every team moved up or down with the exception of one this week. That stagnant team was the Ja Morant-less Memphis Grizzlies. They were last at #15 last week and held on to that “title” this week.

Don’t look now, but here come the Golden State Warriors! After a rough start to the 2020-21 season the Warriors are on the rise, thanks in large part to the play of Stephen Curry. This week the Warriors were 3-1 with two wins against Quality Teams, the LA Clippers and the Toronto Raptors. Powered by those wins the Warriors jumped a staggering 9 spots in this weeks WC Power Rankings to #2. Other big movers were the defending Champion Los Angeles Lakers (3-1) and the Utah Jazz (2-2)

Without looking, can you guess which team is second to the Los Angeles Lakers in most nationally televised games this season? Don’t look! Would you be surprised to learn its the New Orleans Pelicans? To be fair, there is a 4-way tie for second between the Pelicans, Celtics and Warriors, but the Pels were expected to be watchable. So far, they have not been. There is a hope in the Association head offices, no doubt, that this team, led by Zion Williamson, gets back on track. This was not the week that happened. The Pelicans were 0-3 and dropped a mind-blowing 12 spots! Others going in the wrong direction this week are the Minnesota Timberwolves (1-3) and the Sacramento Kings (1-3)
